Our Reading Implementation
Early Reading and Phonics

In EYFS and Key Stage 1, we teach early reading using the Read Write Inc. (RWI) phonics programme

Reading books are carefully matched to each child’s phonics level to encourage success and fluency
Progression Across the School

As children move into Key Stage 2, they progress from phonics into whole-class and guided reading

Children continue to develop accuracy, fluency and comprehension through a wide range of texts
Comprehension Focus

Every Friday, pupils take part in dedicated comprehension lessons, learning how to discuss, question and respond to what they read

English (Literacy) lessons are linked to core texts, offering opportunities to explore characters, themes and rich vocabulary
